DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

I believe one of an interior designer’s most valuable skills is the ability to listen, in order to understand both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the client.  Good designs should involve successful problem solving, and incorporate theories, principles and elements of design in order to meet a client’s requirements.  The best designs should be adaptable and evolve with the client to provide successful function and satisfaction long after current trends have faded.

In addition, an interior designer should have the expertise to consider the architectural design, history, and integrity of a project site when making design decisions.  A designer should have a thorough knowledge of architecture history and standard historic preservation guidelines, as well as education in the history of art, furniture and the decorative arts in order to provide valuable guidance to their client.

And above all, an interior designer should have the capability to sensitively integrate designs that are compatible with pertinent building codes and Universal Design principles.  This is crucial to ensure that the client and/or end user experience safety, ease of use, and enjoyment for the lifetime of the project.
